Normally, one would expect the richest governors in Nigeria to be those of the richest states in the country. But that is not how it is.
As a matter of fact, the richest governor in Nigeria is Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State. The shocking thing is, his state is among the poorest states in Nigeria presently. Lol.
So governing the richest state in Nigeria does not actually make one the wealthiest governor in the country. Otherwise Jide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State would definitely top the list of the top 10 wealthiest governors in Nigeria today.
In this article we will take a look at the top 10 wealthiest governors in Nigeria according to their net worth.
Since a few states had a new government taking over the previous one due to the outcome of the last election, expect to see a few new names featured in this list.
It doesn’t mean there won’t be any name that you are familiar with from 2018, it simply means this list is current and can be trusted.
So who and who are Nigeria’s “money-bag” governors following the 2019 gubernatorial elections? You will find this as you read on.
Most of these leaders made their money even before they joined politics and not necessarily from their state’s purse.

Before stepping into politics fully, Abubakar Sani Bello was already very rich from his family’s fortunes. As a matter of fact, the popular finance magazine Forbes, ranks the family into which he was born as one of the richest families in Africa, not just Nigeria alone.
However, though Governor Abubakar Sani Bello is the wealthiest governor in Nigeria presently, his state Niger State ranks very low in the list of the richest states in Nigeria today.
While that has nothing to do with the Governor, we are hoping that at the end of his tenure, he would have been able to put the state on the path of prosperity again.

The governor who says his administration is committed to providing quality governance to the people of Ogun State looks very ready to do so.
Dapo Abiodun is the 4th wealthiest in Nigeria presently.
Since he just assumed office for the first time this year, his name is one of those new names on this list.

Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano is the incumbent governor of Anambra State and the fifth richest in the country.
Governor Obiano was born on the 8th of August 1957. Before joining politics and becoming the governor of Anambra, Willie was a very successful banker and businessman.
Just like his predecessor, Obiano won the governorship election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). A political party that has the late Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu as one of its founding fathers.
Though Obiano has been widely dragged and criticised on social media for his drinking habit, the governor is still one of those governors you can say is working in Nigeria today. I can still remember seeing “Willie Is Working” written in several places where work is on-going last time I travelled to Anambra.

Talking about his feud with the APC Chairman Oshiomole, Obaseki is reported to have said “Edo people elected me to serve them and not political leaders.”
Well, we are watching to see what will become of that statement in the long run.
7.) Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto State Governor)
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is the present governor of Sokoto State having won the 2019 governorship held in the state. He won the election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Tambuwal has been in politics for quite a while and has also been from one party to the other. He is one of the top 10 richest governors in the country.
8.) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano State Governor)
Were you all expecting “Gandollar”’s name not to be included in this list? Haha!

On the 16th of July 2019, Oyo State Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde also written as “Seyi Makinde,” made the headlines for publicly declaring his assets. According to him, his assets are to worth 48 billion naira. That makes him one of Nigeria’s wealthiest governors.
The Oyo State governor was born on the 25th of December 1967. He is presently one of the youngest and most educated governors in Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, I am personally looking up to this governor to see how he will perform and I really hope he does well.
At least I’m hoping that he performs better than Yahaya Bello of Kogi State who being very young like Makinde, is said to have performed poorly in his first tenure.
Can these governors presently considered as the top 10 richest governors in Nigeria lead their states to the paths of prosperity and abundance? We will like to hear what you think. Let us know in the comment section below.
