8 Best MTN Tariff Plans for Calls & Data – Migration Codes & Benefits

0

Most Nigerians have problem choosing a single one to use out of the numerous mtn tariff plans available for them out there in terms of calls, data and other benefits.

mtn tariff plans

This is so, because there are couple of benefits that one has over the others. However, some of them really stand out of the others in terms of what they offer the consumers.

For example, for years now, Pulse has been the best call plan when you put their call rates, data offers and some other benefits into consideration.

Here is what will happen.

I will break down what each call tariff is offering to make choosing one over the other easy for you.

Who is ready to ride with me? Yah! Let’s do this.

Best MTN Plan for Calls

The best for local calls is mtn pulse and it comes with loads of offers and for those that will be making lots of international calls, then you should go for XtraValue (Xtra Talk) and Xtra Special.

Best MTN Tariff for Data

It is also Pulse because of the mouth watering night plan under it. Xtra Value is also great for this; make sure you buy the Xtra Data bundles, so you can have more mtn data for browsing the internet.

1.) MTN Pulse

This is by far the best tariff plan on mtn network or let me say across all networks in the country. Yes, it is that amazing.

Below are how to switch to Pulse from other tariff plan, call rates and how long it will take you to use 100 Naira up to 1000 Naira airtime if you are on this plan.

Lastly, we will talk about the mouth watering offers that comes with this call plan for those that chose to subscribe to it. Let’s get started

Pulse Migration Code

Do one of the following if you want to migrate to Pulse call plan on mtn.

  • *406*1#
  • *123*2*2#
  • Text 406 to 131

Pulse Call Rate

First 60 seconds of the say is charged at the rate of 25.6 Kobo per second and for the rest of the day, it is 11.26 Kobo per second.

It used to be 11 kobo / second but i guess because of the increase in VAT (Value Added Tax) by the federal government in May, 2020, this had to go up a bit too.

What does this mean, assuming you recharge your sim with 100 Naira, 200 Naira, 500 or 1000 Naira.

Well, that’s why we are here. To simply the technical details for you. To make things much more easier, i will first calculate how many seconds you will use to exhaust 100 Naira and use that value to calculate any amount of airtime you have.

But, first. 1 Naira = 100 Kobo.

Also, i will represent the unknown (?) with Z

So, for the first minute or 60 seconds of the day;

  • 25.6 Kobo – 1 Second
  • ? (Z) – 60 seconds
  • Z = 60 x 25.6 = 1536

Meaning, you will spend 1536 Kobo for the first 60 seconds or 1 minute.

If we are to convert that to Naira, it will be;

  • 100 Kobo = 1 Naira
  • 1536 Kobo = ? (Z)
  • Z = 1536 / 100 = 15.36 Naira.

What this mean is that you will spend 15 Naira, 36 Kobo for the first 1 minute of every day.

If i deduct that from 100 Naira, i will be left with 84.64 Naira.

For the rest of the day, the rate drops to 11.26 Kobo per second. Which leads to the question, how long will it takes to exhuast 84 Naira 64 Kobo at this rate.

Well, let’s go back to our calculation.

  • 11.26 Kobo – 1 Second
  • 8464 Kobo – Z
  • Z = 8464 / 11.26 = 751.687389 seconds

Let us convert that to minute. Shall we?

  • 60 Seconds – 1 Minute
  • 751.687389 seconds – Z
  • Z = 751.687389 / 60
  • Z = 12.528 minutes

So,

Total Minutes = 12.528 + 1 = 13.528 minutes or 13 minutes 32 seconds.

  • On Pulse Tariff, you can call any local networks in Nigeria for 13 minutes 32 seconds with 100 Naira airtime.
  • For 200 Naira Airtime = 13.528 x 2 = 27.056 minutes or 27 minutes 3 seconds.
  • 500 Naira Airtime = 13.528 x 5 = 67.64 minutes or 67 minutes 38 seconds.
  • 1000 Naira Airtime = 13.528 x 10 = 135.28 minutes or 135 minutes 17 seconds.

Pulse Benefits

The following are major benefits that comes with pulse call plan.

  • MTN Nightlife Bundles: It gives 250mb for 25 Naira to browse between 11pm and 6am and you can get up to 2GB for 200 Naira on a single sim.
  • High Data Volume: It offers 750MB and 1.5GB for 300 Naira with 3 days validity and 500 Naira with 7 days validity respectively.
  • Instagram and Tiktok Plans: You get 350mb and 1GB for 100 Naira with 24 hours validity and 200 Naira for 7 days validity respectively.

2.) MTN Beta Talk

This plan is known for its airtime bonus. You get 150% or 250% airtime bonus if you recharge less than N100 or 100 Naira and above.

Airtime bonus is valid for 7 days (it means you have just a week to use it before it get wiped). Also, the first minute of call of the day will be charged from your main account.

Apart from that, you also get to buy up to 35mb for 50 Naira using *131*114# and 250mb for 200 Naira using *131*113#. You can check your balance by dialing *131*4# or texting 2 to 131.

So let’s talk about migrating and call rate.

Beta Talk Migration Code

To migrate your mtn sim to beta talk call plan, do one of the following.

  • *123*2*1#
  • Text BT to 131

Beta Talk Call Rate

There are two different call rates for those using tariff plan.

On your main account, you will be charged 45.05 kobo per second or 27.03 Naira per minute.

While on your bonus account, you will be charged 51.19 kobo per second or 30.71 Naira per minute.

So, let’s assume you load 100 Naira, you will receive 250% bonus which translate to 250 Naira which total 350 Naira.

  • The 100 Naira in the main account will last you for; 100 / 27.03 = 3.7 minutes.
  • While the 250 Naira on the bonus account will last you for 250 / 30.71 = 8.1 minutes.
  • Total = 3.7 + 8.1 = 11.8 minutes or 11 minutes 48 seconds.

As you can see, pulse is still better than this in terms of talk time. And if you compare the benefits it offers to beta talk, i think Pulse wins here.

It is also worth noting that you can not share your mtn airtime or credit in the bonus account.

3.) MTN Yafun Yafun 2.0

YafunYafun is currently the default mtn call plan. What this mean is that, it is the plan most newly registered sim will be on for 3 months or until you migrate to another plan.

YafunYafun Migration Code

When you buy a new sim, registered and activate it by making a call, send an sms or browse. An option will pop up asking you to choose a tariff plan, select YafunYafun and you are in.

If you didn’t select anything, you will placed on Yafun Yafun by default.

Here are what you need to know.

You will be on this plan and enjoy the benefits that comes with it for just 3 months after which you will be migrated to beta talk.

However, you can migrated out of which before the 3 months but you won’t be able to enjoy most of the benefits after migrating away from it.

Benefits of Yafun Yafun

  • 500 Naira Activation Bonus (400 for call and 100 Naira for data). Usable even if you migrated out of Yafun Yafun right away.
  • You get 700% bonus when you recharge 100 Naira and above. 500% of it is for call and sms (@12.29 Naira per sms) and the remaining 200% is for data.
  • It offers you 100% bonus on all data you buy.

After 3 month and you are migrated to Beta Talk or you migrate to other plan of your choice, you will still get 100% data bonus for another 1 month (total of 4 month of data bonus).

Both recharge bonus and activation bonus are valid for 7 days. Dial *559*43# to check your bonus.

YafunYafun Call Rate

You will be charged 70.64 kobo per second (42.38 Naira per minute) on your main account and 76.79 kobo per second (46.07 Naira per minute) on your bonus account.

The first 60 seconds of call for the day will be charged from your main account.

Let’s assume you recharge 100 Naira on your sim, you will 700 Naira out of which 500 Naira can be used to make calls and 200 Naira to browse the internet.

  • Main Account Talk Time: 100 / 42.38 = 2.36 minutes.
  • Bonus Account Talk Time = 500 / 46.07 = 10.85 minutes.
  • Total talk-time for 100 Naira recharge = 13.21 minutes or 13 minutes 13 seconds.

The calculation is the same for higher recharge.

  • 200 Airtime recharge = 13.21 x 2 = 26.42 minutes or 26 minutes 25 seconds
  • 500 Naira Airtime Recharge = 13.21 x 5 = 66.05 minutes or 66 minutes 3 seconds
  • 1000 Naira Recharge = 13.21 x 10 = 132.1 minutes or 132 minutes 6 seconds.

4.) MTN TruTalk

Trutalk is another interesting call plan from mtn network but not with great benefit at least when compared to the likes of beta talk and pulse.

However, there is one small benefit that comes with it. You can migrate to it as many times as possible for free. But then guys, if you are migrating away, you will be charged. So it isn’t that great.

Trutalk Migration Code

To migrate to trutalk tariff, do one of the following.

  • Dial *123*2*6#
  • Text TT to 131

Trutalk Call Rate

You will be charged 11.26 Kobo per second to call any Nigerian network after a daily access fee of 7.17 Naira.

If you do not have up to 7.17 Naira in your account balance, the call rate will be 15.36 kobo per second.

11.26 K/S is equivalent to 675.6 kobo or 6.756 Naira per minute while 15.36 Kobo per second is equivalent to 921.6 kobo or 9.216 Naira per minute.

The daily access fee won’t be deducted from your account until you make a call that very day.

  • So, let’s say you recharge 100 Naira on your mtn sim. How long will it last?
  • After a daily access fee of 7.17 Naira, you will be left with 92.83 Naira (100 – 7.17).
  • Talk time = 13.74 minutes or 13 minutes 44 seconds.

The above talktime is with the assumption that you use the 100 Naira airtime in a single day.

  • For 200 Naira, Talktime = 13.74 x 2 = 27.48 minutes or 27 minutes 29 seconds
  • 500 Naira talktime = 13.74 x 5 = 68.7 minutes which is also 68 minutes 42 seconds
  • 1000 Naira talktime = 10 x 13.74 = 137.4 minutes which is 137 minutes 24 seconds.

This seems to be the first call plan on the list that has a slight better talktime than Pulse. But let’s keep moving on. Maybe we will find a better deal.

5.) MTN Awuf4U

This is not entirely a tariff plan on its own. It’s just a method of recharge that allows you to recieve more benefit on your recharge than you would have on your current call plan.

There are off course some limitations. The most important one is that the airtime can expire after 14 or 30 days if you recharge less than 100 Naira or 100 Naira and above respectively.

Secondly, you can only send up to 75 Naira worth of SMS in a week. After that, sms charges will be from your main account.

Awuf4U Migration Code

Since this is technically not a tariff plan, you can’t migrate to it. The beauty of it is that you can use it on top any call plan you are currently on.

Awuf4U Benefits

You will receive 400% bonus + recharge value in your awuf4u account if you recharge 100 Naira and above for less than 100 Naira, you will receive 275% bonus.

You have to recharge using *888*Recharge_Card_Pin#. You can also do VTU but make sure you select awuf4u.

Awuf4U Call Rate

You will be charge 57.33 Kobo per second for national call and 92.14 kobo per second for internation calls.

You can only call 13 countries at the above international rate and they include India, Ireland, Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Germany.

So let’s say you recharge 100 Naira using 888 and get the awuf4u recharge bonus, how long will it take for you to exhaust it.

Total airtime in awuf4u account = 100 (recharge value) + 400 (awuf4u bonus) Naira = 500 Naira.

For Local Calls, call rate is 57.33 kobo per second or 34.398 Naira per minute.

  • Talk time for local calls on 100 Naira recharge = 500 / 34.398 = 14.54 minutes (14 minutes 32 seconds)

For international calls, rate is 92.14 kobo per second or 55.284 Naira per minute.

  • Talk time for international calls on 100 Naira recharge = 500 / 55.284 = 9.04 minutes.

Remember, you can only call 13 international number or you will be charged from your main account at your current plan rate.

Awuf4U Balance

Dial *559*14# to check how much airtime is left for you to use.

6.) MTN mPulse

It is an educational platform as much as it is a call plan that is targeted at secondary school students whose ages fall between 9 and 15.

You have to registered on this platform as a student meaning you must be between the above age or as parent with ward between the above ages.

First thing you want to do is migrate to mpulse and visit mpulse.mtnonline.com to enjoy the benefits and educational resources that comes with this plan.

You get 200 Naira free airtime when on your birthdays, and you can get up to 700mb for 150 Naira and 200mb for 50 Naira usable only on mpulse website. You also get monthly free whatsapp access for 7 days.

How to Migrate to mPulse

mpulse migration code is *344#1# and you can also send mPulse to 131 for the same achievement.

mPulse Call Rate

You will be charged 15.36 kobo per second to call any local networks such as glo, airtel, 9mobile and of course mtn.

Let’s see how long 100 Naira will last you on this plan.

  • 15.36 kobo – 1 second
  • Z – 60 second
  • Z = 60 x 15.36 = 921.6 Kobo / minute

Let’s convert that to Naira per minute

  • 100 kobo – 1 Naira
  • 921.6 kobo – Z
  • Z = 921.6 / 100 = 9.216 Naira / minute

If you recharge 100 Naira;

  • 9.216 Naira – 1 minute
  • 100 Naira – Z
  • Z = 100 / 9.216 = 10.85 minutes

Talktime for 100 Naira on mPulse = 10.85 minutes which is also 10 minutes 51 seconds.

  • For 200 Naira = 21.7 minutes. 21 minutes 42 seconds
  • 500 Naira = 54.25 minutes. 54 minutes 15 seconds
  • 1000 Naira Talktime = 108.5 minutes. 108 minutes 30 seconds.

7.) MTN XtraValue

This is another great call plan from the telecom giant. Irrespective of the bundle you subscribe to, you will get both data and airtime on mtn xtra value.

It is however divided into two part dubbed;

Final Note

MTN Pulse and Xtra Value call tariff really stand out of all of them depending on what you really want.

International calls on Xtra Special is also great if you are going to be making calls to numbers in country eligible for the offer.

mPulse is great for parent with wards between the ages of 9 and 15 or for the wards themselves. It provides access to educational platforms and resources that will easily and quickly let them develop their brain and get expose to different method of learning.

Awuf4U and True Talk offers more talktime for local calls than most of the plans but i will still go for Pulse over them considering other offers that comes with it.

When you buy a new sim, you will by default be on Yafun Yafun and receives a 500 Naira airtime bonus out of which 400 Naira can be used for call and 100 Naira for data. You can also immediately migrate to another plan without loosing those bonus.

The activation bonus has a call rate of 42.38 Naira per minutes and sms costs 12.29 Naira for 1.

Also, if you are to migrate more than once between tariff plans within a month, you will be charged a fee of 102 Naira for every other migration after that.

You get to enjoy the basic services that the telecom company offers its subscriber such as borrowing credit from mtn if you suddenly run out and don’t want to or can’t get top up at the moment.
